"My business is to create." My art follows many paths,
but all of those journeys start from my emotions.
Emotions can be a difficult  inspiration because what
I feel is determined by my everyday life and  lives
fluctuate continuously. Who is with me. Who has left.
Who I have  yet to meet. My experiences from my
neighborhood, and the news around me whether it be
local or global. Where I am and where I wish to go.
There is control in what I wish to carry with me and
a mystery as to  what I will experience next. But there
is never a moment when I do not  feel. Therefore, there
is never a moment when I am not inspired to create.

Many would call my pieces abstract. The paintings I
create contain  many layers. So many that they are
transformed multiple times, and a  finished piece is
felt rather than planned. As one experiences my
paintings there are two stages of connection. An
introduction that is experienced from afar and a more
intimate, close relationship. From afar, I want the
person to be drawn to the painting as a whole. To
pause and then be drawn in for a closer view. As you
let the painting into your personal space you find the
hidden gems of its personality within the layers. A
particular line that deviates from the others. A field
of color that your eyes are drawn to. A stacking of
layers that reveal the depth to the painting. The
characteristics of the piece that speak to you.

Beyond my emotions and wish for the viewer to have an
emotional experience with my paintings, I am controlled
in how I go about the creative process. I use primarily
acrylic paint, and additives such as fabric dye, gel
mediums, and found objects that leave trace marks. The
ground I create the paintings on are wooden panels
constructed by my hand. I am a controlled user of color
and application to the painting ground though my thought
process is often many steps ahead of what I am actually
applying. Because of this I am constantly surprised at how
much I must trust the work I do to convey what I want to
express. That trust may be a frustration at times, but I
have always grown as an artist from each experience, and
truly feel my drive to create will never fade.
